One year ago today Saturday, I hit publish for the very first time. I had originally planned to recognize the occasion by writing up a big Thank You post on the day. But instead I celebrated by doing something better – not blogging.
Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging and all that it has brought me in the past year. I love that it has connected me with a great community of people – has introduced me to inspiring runners and allowed me to form new friendships. It’s encouraged me to try new things and inspired me to sign up for more races. In fact, in the one year that I’ve been blogging, I’ve already run more races than I have in all the years since college combined. And I’ve already got a bunch more planned in the summer and fall. I like to think blogging brought me out of retirement. 
Blogging has given me an outlet – one that I’ve been so thankful for over this past year. So to all of you that have commented, emailed, or taken a few moments to read my posts, whether you read everyday (thanks Mom and Dad!) or have only stopped by once – thank you! I have appreciated your words more than you can know.
I never actually planned on taking a mini-blogging vacation, but as we all know – life happens. And when things come up, sometimes it just feels good to step away. So this weekend, I packed up the pup and traveled out to western PA to visit the ontherun family. It was a wonderful couple of days filled with relaxing, delicious food, and family time, completely unplugged.
I have a lot of catching up to do in the next couple of days. But stayed tuned for a fun guest post and the first ever HOTR Giveaway!!
And in the meantime, I figured I’d humor you with some of my favorite search terms people have used to find this blog over the past year:
“Who is health on the run” (now that’s the million dollar question
“almond milk changed my life” (mine too!)
“9 degrees? too friggin cold to go running”
“can a vegetarian be friends with a meat eater” (not sure…we are mortal enemies, after all)
“can you have a muffin everyday” (I don’t see why not?)
“can you run a half marathon with a camelbak” (I think this person was actually looking for Becky‘s blog
“can you survive on just lentils”
“do lentils give you the runs” (hmmm…no comment…)
“lauren holey sock” (is this what I’m becoming known for??)
“inhaling kale” (I suggest you just try chewing it – tastes so much better that way)
“i’m a meateater” (surprisingly, this person only stuck around for 10 seconds)
“how to give someone the runs? something yummy tho” (yikes…wouldn’t want to be this person’s friend)
“why is my dog obsessed with ice cubes” (I don’t know, but if you find the answer to this one, please pass it on!)
“why do runners become addicted to peanut butter?” (same with this one!)
And to the person who has visited my blog almost 200 (!!) times in the past year by searching “200 mile 24 hour relay running tips” — thanks for considering me such an expert on relays. While I appreciate you coming back time and time again, I just want to throw it out there — have you ever considered bookmarking the site…? ;)

Happy first blog birthday!! I’m so glad you took time to go visit your family and unplug – there is nothing more refreshing than that. I love reading about how blogging has influenced people’s lives, because it’s definitely had many positive impacts on mine too.
I should look at what people have googled to find my blog – some of those are hilarious! I especially love the last one. Perhaps running is a risk factor for peanut butter addiction?
