A Time for Change

(Quick note — I’ve decided to take a small step back from yesterday so that I could paint a better picture of my reasons for starting this blog and what I hope to accomplish. So, here goes…)
Recently I’ve been stuck in a bit of rut. Almost a full year after graduating with my master’s degree in Public Health, I still don’t really know what I want to be when I grow up. I can say I have a better sense of it now than a did even a few months ago, but I’m not sure that I’m any closer to actually getting there. And while I’m fortunate enough to have a decent paying job with a supportive boss, I can’t honestly say that I love what I do.
Frankly, life as of late had become a bit monotonous. The same old thing day in and day out had left me feeling frustrated and paralyzed. Even the challenge of marathon training (something I normally get so much satisfaction from) hasn’t had the same effect. I found I was just going through the motions — doing it because I felt like I had to.
Forward Momentum

The other night on the Biggest Loser (the show I most love to hate), the contestants were faced with an almost impossible sounding challenge: pulling a semi truck down a giant runway. Five people were instructed to get behind a huge bar strapped to the front of the truck, and by sheer brute force, move 33,000 pounds of machinery.

From where I was sitting, this looked extremely difficult. And I don’t think that’s just because I was at home, on the couch in my pajamas with a bowl of ice cream in my lap (oh wait, sorry this is a healthy living blog. I’m ashamed to admit it, but in the spirit of full disclosure… For some reason I just get so hungry while watching this show. Jillian would be horrified, but what can I say — I think a little bit of ice cream is an essential part of life). Anyway, I watched in awe as the contestants grunted and strained and threw their entire body weight into it…yet still the truck did not budge. “They’re never going to get it started!” my boyfriend turned to me and exclaimed.
